THE CALLTHE CALL is a cursed film; originally conceived in early 2008 and loosely based H.P. Lovecraft’s 1926 short story The Call of Cthulhu, production was beset by technical difficulties, hard drive failures, backup failures, emotional failures, and general malaise. The film takes Lovecraft’s original story, a weird sci-fi tale about space-dwelling gods with the power to completely obliterate a person’s life (and the universe along with it), and turns it into a meditative mockumentary about the nature of knowledge, and the tension between learning and sanity.
