ABOUT
Decipher Film and Photo is the web home of Karol Orzechowski, an image-maker currently based in Toronto, Ontario. Karol began doing photography as a youth, embedded in the punk rock scenes of Peterborough, Toronto, and Ottawa. Over time, his work has expanded to include a broader range of subject matter that reflects his growing interest in the relationship between images and understanding. Karol tries to create images that do not dictate meaning, but instead encourage active interpretation and further political engagement. Karol’s current photography projects include Meet Me In The Bathroom, where he looks at portraiture, self-portraiture, and the politics of the lavatory. In 2010, Karol traveled to rodeos across Ontario, Canada to document the links between Canadian identity and animal-based sport, and will continue the project into 2011. Karol’s current film projects include Matamaquia, a short film about the culture of bullfighting in Spain, and Maximum Tolerated Dose, his first feature-length documentary, about the issue of animal experimentation.
